We dived into the world of Applied Maths to find out!<\/p>\n<p>On top of their usual research lives, Jess and Caoimhe founded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mathematigals.com\">Mathematigals, an organisation which aims to promote diversity in the physical sciences and encourage more #womeninSTEM<\/a>. While most of my research could easily be called a disaster, Zach instead focusses on how we can adapt to the unanticipated and bounce back stronger. From flooding in Hurricane Katrina through to his current work on how small businesses can best adapt to the Covid-19 pandemic, Zach&#8217;s work really couldn&#8217;t be more relevant to today&#8217;s world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Episode Two <\/strong>&#8211; Rachel vs The Resistance<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"buzzsprout-player-7277221\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t <script src=\"https:\/\/www.buzzsprout.com\/1515166\/7277221.js?container_id=buzzsprout-player-7277221&amp;player=small\" type=\"text\/javascript\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<p>Dr Rachel Wheatley spends her days trying to pick apart the problem of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/antibiotic-resistance\">This is a big issue &#8211; if bacteria keep evolving to become resistant, we might end up with no effective treatments for bacterial infections.<\/a> That would mean that a tiny cut could easily kill you &#8211; a state that that we don&#8217;t want to get back to!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.judoinside.com\/judoka\/100974\/Rachel_Wheatley\/judo-results\">She&#8217;s also a champion Judoer (Judist?
